Summary: The lines of the Sportstech F17 treadmill are angled, with a futuristic profile. This mid-range model from the popular Sportstech has plenty of innovative technology under the hood. All fitness equipment from this brand has German engineering at its core. What you get with the F17 Treadmill is Kinomap (app) compatibility, a unique lubrication system, 5-layer running surface, 12km / hour silent motor and an ‘intelligent’ easy folding system.

Users with an eye for design don’t need to compromise. Sportstech equipment is as reliable as they come.

Detailed Review of the Sportstech F17 Home Treadmill

The first thing that stood out for me is the size of the running surface. This is 40cm wide, and 110cm long. Not quite ‘commercial gym’ size, though a lot closer than most home treadmills in this price bracket. The overall dimensions are 144cm x 720cm x 123cm with the machine weighing in at a hefty 46kgs. The max recommended user weight is 120kgs (more than 18 stone).

There are wheels to move this treadmill into place. It is a big machine, and I would recommend leaving it in place if possible. It does fold, with the console moving down to meet the running surface. This is different to how most brands fold and will let you store it under a table or sofa.

You will probably know whether the sharp, futuristic design appeals to you. There are extra pictures, plus a video, over on the amazon UK product page.

Speed and Motor

The F17 has a 12km / hour top speed. This is fast for almost all of us – even for short sprints. A lot of fitness equipment makers claim to have quiet or silent motors. Sportstech put a number on this, and it is impressive. Their 2.5hp motor is less than 45 decibels. The 5-layer cushioned running surface also helps to keep the sound of your steps down. This will also protect your knees compared to the harder surfaces you find in cheap treadmills.

There is a lubrication system built in to the F17. This releases lubricating oil evenly as you run. It will not only keep your treadmill in optimal condition – it helps against developing any nasty squeaks too!

Sportstech F17 Treadmill Review: It’s All About the Technology

Folds Flat F17 TreadmillThis mid-priced treadmill contains more tech than many machines which cost £1000 or more. The console looks like something you might find in a Tesla car, only thinner. This is designed so that you can place your iPad or Android tablet on top – and use Kinomap (or alternative) to liven up your runs.

You get a pulse belt included with your purchase. This straps around your chest and can be used to fine tune your workouts to match your heart rate / fitness level. There are speakers built in, headphone socket and MP3 compatibility too.

Sportstech gives you a choice of pre-set programs, or controlling your run manually – assuming you prefer not to use compatible apps.

Naturally, a safety key system is also included. Overall, this is impressive tech with the LED screen giving this model a pro feel compared to the simple LCD displays of rival models.

Feedback: What Owners of the Sportstech F17 Treadmill Said

Hugely positive feedback for this model. I had to filter out some semi-coherent rants. One thought that he was a cash cow, though it was unclear if he ever saw the treadmill. Another got a broken part. This is a valid reason to complain, though Sportstech replace things fast, so I’m not sure the stream of consciousness rant and 1-star review was really justified.

Over to the positives (the vast majority). This treadmill wowed a lot of buyers, with the ease of use impressing several people. The technology got multiple mentioned, though the main plus was the build quality. I know, German Engineering is a cliché – though when you check out the feedback on multiple Sportstech machines, you will quickly see that this does make a big difference.

As always, it can pay to check the latest feedback before you buy… even for machines made by German engineers.

Wrapping Up: Is the Sportstech F17 Treadmill Right for You?

I had to go back and double check the price of this treadmill. It has an excellent spec, quality construction and some high-tech additions – starting with the screen.

One thing to keep in mind is that it folds flat. If you want a treadmill that folds vertically, then the T350 from JLL would be a better pick at a similar price point.

The design certainly has a wow-factor. Of course, it is what is underneath that really counts. With Sportstech you get solid, reliable fitness equipment – with excellent after sales service.
